In this scenario, the ceiling hoist does not indicate an error while operating the hand controls.

Operate the hand controls to activate the lift motor. If the motor is running, you can hear it rotating during operation.
If there is excessive wear from the frictional components, the teeth of the hub may become too warn and no contact is made between the motor gear shaft and the hub
Replace the warn component, usually the hub but may be the motor.

Inspect the condition of the wiring between the two components for any breaks, cuts or burns.
If damage is found on either the motor wiring or the toggle switch wiring, replace the damaged component
